Mountain Lovers

Never ending Freedom for fresh mountain´s air lovers!

Every single walker, hiker and mountain climber can find a challenge in the Isarco Valley. Richly facetted trails and paths run through a landscape moulded and cultivated through the centuries, up to the pleasant terraces of the lower mountain ranges, to the high Alpine pastures, and on up to solitary mountain lakes and bizarre peaks.

  • A very special experience is the “Keschtnweg”, the Chestnut Trail, which leads from Vahrn near Brixen through the lower ranges of the Isarco Valley and down into the Bozen valley. The 60 km long trail winds through chestnut groves, vine carpeted hills, mixed forests full of colour and lush green meadows. With each step a new glimpse is revealed of the hidden secrets of nature and culture: churches and chapels, fortresses and castles, noblemen’s houses and wineries all bear witness to the myths and legends of days long gone.

  • The Tiroler Höhenweg is also very popular. This 130 km long, high Alpine hiking trail stretches between Mayrhofen (A) and Meran. Including ascent and descent its 19,000 meters can be tackled in 11 days, each day revealing yet more wonderful sights and views. From the icy giants of the Zillertal Alps, to the jagged Dolomite peaks of the Tribulaun, the peaks along the Passeier valley and the Texel range as far as the apple orchards of Meran, fans of the Höhenweg will experience the splendour of the mountains again and again.

  • The sense of freedom high up in the Isarco valley is simply endless, as shown by the new Europa Höhenweg 2, a challenge for passionate hikers. The 340 km long-distance trail runs from Innsbruck (A) via the Europahütte to Brixen and then on to Feltre in Veneto. It can be climbed in 22 stages up to its full 3,000 m, and reveals dense mountain forests, romantic Alpine pastures, airy tracks along ridges and summits, mountain lakes, waterfalls and glaciers to those who tackle it.

The relevant hiking maps are available from the Isarco Valley Tourism Board.
